As chicks, they’re soft, fluffy, and instantly lovable. As adults, they become sharp, vibrant, and built for the sky. But in between is this stage, all scruff and uncertainty.
This juvenile Oystercatcher can’t fly yet. It scurries along the beach, watching the horizon, waiting for a parent to return with food. Not quite chick, not quite adult, just doing its best in that in-between season.
It’s a tough age to fit in.
